Punarvasu spans the last degrees of Gemini (Mercury) and the first degrees of Cancer (Moon). It is the tamasic aspect of Jupiter, which represents the renewal of dharma, thought and action that uplift society and our life purpose. As do all tamasic influences, it strips away, reduces, eliminates. And as the tamasic aspect of Jupiter it strips away all that keeps us from realizing the highest values in society and our individual true purpose in life.
Punarvasu also strips away outmoded conventions and customs that keep society from realizing its full potential. For instance, the hereditary caste system and marriage dowries in India are two obviously outmoded customs that the energy of Punarvasu has the potential to change. It does so while still upholding the fundamental structures of society.
